Rosenberger OSI installs state-of-the-art cabling infrastructure in new building of envia TEL's colocation data center

Future-oriented cabling ensures modularity and flexibility for telecommunications provider

Augsburg, February 10, 2021 – Rosenberger Optical Solutions & Infrastructure (Rosenberger OSI), expert in fiber-based connectivity, cabling solutions and infrastructure services, announces that it has successfully completed a cabling project at telecommunications service provider envia TEL in central Germany. From now on, Rosenberger OSI's future-oriented cabling technology will ensure smooth continuous operation at the innovative company's Leipzig 2 data center.

Operating a high-performance fiber optic network in Central Germany, the telecommunications service provider envia TEL ensures that the regional economy remains competitive in the digital age. To date, the company has connected around 350 industrial and commercial sites in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Thuringia to its fiber optic network.

Structured cabling with standardized components

Being new to the company up until now, envia TEL had drawn up a concept for the new construction of the Leipzig 2 data center in order to meet all the requirements for SK3/VK3 of the EN 50600 certification. The plan was to implement structured cabling with uniform components. In order to build a congruent structure, envia TEL decided to use only one supplier for the passive components. The selection criteria for the products were not only quality, flexibility and future security, but also an attractive price/performance ratio. After a short selection process, Rosenberger OSI was awarded the contract for the project.

Implementation of Network Operation Center technology

In the first project step, the basic structure for construction phase 1.1 was set up. Here, the planning provided the use of fiber optic singlemode, multimode as well as Cu-Kat in the two Meet-Me areas. This enabled the implementation of the Network Operation Center technology, which is necessary for the basic supply of the new data center. During this phase, the Rosenberger OSI team also installed the first components for the standard customer cabinets. A PreCONNECT® STANDARD trunk 36 channels with 72 fibers was used to connect the Meet-Me rooms to the zone distributor.

Use of special distribution panels

A special challenge in planning and setting up a colocation data center is the fact that a provider does not plan the passive racks in the customer environment itself, as is common in enterprise data centers. Instead, so-called zone distributors are used, which, however, have special dimensions. Rosenberger OSI used its 200 mm distribution panels in this environment and was thus able to solve the problem.

Focus on growth and expansion

The new colocation data center of envia TEL is designed for dynamic growth and will be successively expanded. The planned growth is based on customer requirements and will take place in four construction phases. With a fixed product portfolio now in use at the new site, envia TEL can implement new projects for its customers more quickly and efficiently.
