High-speed network solutions from cabling specialist ensure future-proof IT-infrastructure, efficiency and high bandwidth of the connected data centers
Augsburg, 26 October 2017 – Rosenberger Optical Solutions & Infrastructure (Rosenberger OSI), manufacturer of innovative fiber optic cabling infrastructures, announces that the Dutch Internet node AMS-IX was equipped with the most modern fiber-optic infrastructure during a project running for several months. The result: The new infrastructure successfully processes 1.6 Tbps of traffic based on Rosenberger OSI’s standardized plug and play cabling solution. “Due to the deployment of state-of-the-art high speed optical networking solutions including 100GbE we made the AMS-IX infrastructure secure for the future. We not only ensure steady growth, but also serve the sustained demand for more bandwidth to process the increasing data traffic”, says Henk Steenman, CTO of AMS-IX.
AMS-IX in Amsterdam is a distributed internet exchange, currently present at 13 independent colocation facilities in the greater Amsterdam area. The core of the network was built around MLX-32 Core switching systems of Brocade. However, in September 2016 it was decided to replace the core switches in the AMS-IX network in Amsterdam with the new Brocade SLX9850 Switch as several of the existing core-switches had reached their limit. The migration of the first four MLX-32 Core- Switches to the SLX9850 was completed during the first quarter of 2017.
The challenge
In addition to a significant increase in the scalability and performance of the core network with the new Brocade switches, AMS-IX wanted to significantly reduce network complexity to further reduce operating costs. This had a significant impact on the existing fiber optic cabling infrastructure and required a more efficient use to capacity of the dark fiber infrastructure between the core and access switches. AMS-IX reached out to the cabling expert Rosenberger OSI.
