Patch Location Rack COMFORT

Comfort without compromise

In high-density data centre environments, the efficiency of Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) is a critical operational metric. While many comparable solutions focus strongly on fibres per square metre, the Patch Location Rack COMFORT is engineered for the technician.

The deliberate 400 mm depth and specialised sliding door mechanism provide a trade-off that favours infrastructure longevity. By eliminating obtrusive swivelling doors and providing ample internal volume for cable and patch cord routing, the COMFORT rack ensures that your physical layer remains accessible, organised, and protected from macro-bends or stress-related signal loss.

Features

  • Single rack or double rack
  • With lockable doors that take up little space even when open
  • Rear mounting level according to ETSI standard
  • Flexibly positionable patch cord managers
  • Perfectly matched to pre-assembled PreCONNECT® trunk cables
  • Can be set up in the patch location as back-to-back or in a row
  • Space- and energy-saving installation outside cold aisles

Housing Portfolio

The Patch Location Rack COMFORT is more than a frame; it is a modular platform powered by a specialised family of housings. While each housing is optimised for a specific termination method, the entire family shares a common mechanical construction. This ensures that regardless of the fibre type or connection method, the technician experiences a consistent, predictable, and "comfortable" workflow.

  • Patch housings
  • Splice & patch housings
  • Splice-through housings
  • Hybrid housings
  • Ribbon-ready housings

Benefits

  • Maximum Operational Comfort: 100% front-access thanks to sliding door – no obstruction of aisles or adjacent racks.
  • High infrastructure integrity: Spacious interior for strain-relieved trunk cables and integrated excess length management.
  • Efficient use of space: Ideal for perimeter deployment against wall, reclaims high-cost white space for active hardware.
  • Superior Scalability: Up to 2304 LCD ports (single rack) or 4608 LCD ports (double rack) with robust construction.
  • Technician-friendly: Colour-coded, intuitive cable routing, pre-installed patch cord managers and single patch cord length reduce errors and save time

Applications

  • Building Entry Point (BEP): Secure termination of outdoor/carrier cables.
  • Meet-Me Room (MMR): A high-density demarcation point for multi-tenant environments.
  • Main Distribution Area (MDA): The central hub for hall-to-hall cross-connects.
  • Intermediate Distribution (IDA): Localised patching near server pods to reduce patch cord lengths.

Functional Advantages & Technical Logic:

Protecting the Backbone Investment

Backbone trunks are high-value assets that are difficult and costly to replace. The COMFORT rack provides a permanent termination point where these trunks are installed once and secured. All future Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) are performed exclusively via patch cords at the front of the rack, ensuring the backbone remains undisturbed and protected from physical wear.

Operational "Comfort" and Error Prevention

Unlike competitive 300 mm-deep racks that compromise on cable handling, the COMFORT rack utilises a 400 mm depth. This deliberate engineering choice provides:

  • Safe Bending Radii: Ample space for high-fibre-count trunks and patch cord overlength.
  • Intuitive Routing: Clear paths for vertical and horizontal cable management.
  • Colour-Coded Patching: Visual aids to reduce human error during maintenance.

Space-Optimised Sliding Door Mechanism

Traditional swivelling doors require wide aisles to open and/or limit accessibility to the components installed inside the rack. The COMFORT rack features a sliding door that exposes the full width of the rack without obstructing the corridor or neighbouring infrastructure. This allows for installation in tight corners or narrow perimeter zones that are otherwise unusable.

System Components and Versatility

The COMFORT rack is a modular ecosystem supporting a variety of termination methods to meet specific link-loss and density requirements:

  • Universal Housing Family: Supports patch-only, patch and splice, splice-only, or hybrid configurations.
  • High-Density Ribbon Splicing: Compatible with modern mass-fusion splicing for rapid deployment of high-fibre-count cables.
  • Break-out Solutions: Specialised boxes for managing cables exceeding 288 fibres.
  • PreCONNECT® Integration: Optimised for plug-and-play trunk systems to minimise installation time and to offer highest level of protection against tensile forces.

Cable Management: intuitive patching & cable routing for maximum flexibility and future-proofing

A core feature set of the COMFORT rack is the intuitive and scalable cable management system delivering on the promise of easy rack access, scalable and effortless Moves, Adds and Changes.

  • Maximum access via premium, non-obstrusive sliding doors
  • Cable entry from any direction
  • Total freedom for placement of patch hubs
  • Visual aid for recommended patching and routing
  • 4m single patch cord length, any-to-any port within double rack
  • Scalable with modular housings including self-contained overlength storage; removable rack side walls and additional patching enclosures for multiple in-a-row ODF placement.
