VIGNAL GROUP: 605 data links at the new Corbas site

Behind the scenes at the Vignal Group: a reliable, forward-looking network structure.

The Vignal Group is a global player and an important partner to leading manufacturers of commercial and off-road vehicles thanks to its innovative lighting and safety solutions. Léon Vignal founded the electrical equipment company in Lyon in 1919. The following years saw the emergence of partnerships in the fields of lighting and safety systems for heavy goods vehicles with well-known groups such as Berliet, as well as the acquisition of companies such as ABL Lights (market leader in lighting for off-road vehicles) or CEA (specialist in beacons and safety products for special vehicles, and agricultural vehicles in particular).

In 2016, the group found that it had outgrown its site in Vénissieux and decided to relocate to a new 11,500 m² location in Corbas, where it set up a production hall and an R&D center.

In 2023, Vignal acquired a further company, Sesaly, making it necessary to extend the site by 8000 m² in order to accommodate the new line of business.

Equipping the production plant at the corbas site

The initial requirement – The company needed to invest in a copper cabling system capable of supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE), thus allowing it to transfer large data volumes. This put an end to the bottlenecks that sometimes occurred when using a 1 Gbit/s solution and therefore also reduced latencies in the company’s new IT applications.

“We recommended this type of solution to our partner, Immotic, because the components forming the data link, that is to say the category 6A F/FTP cables and the 6A connectors, made it possible to exceed the requirements set out in the second amendment to the ISO 11801 standard in terms of acceptance and handover, thereby enabling the end customer to benefit from a sustainable, long-lasting, high-performance solution,” explains Bruno Demouron, Sales Europe Rosenberger OSI.

The changeover to the new solution: speed, efficiency, warranty

Rosenberger OSI was given the opportunity to work on the extension to the Corbas site and was active throughout the entire building, including various new production lines. Thanks to the acknowledged high-level expertise of its partner, Immotic, in particular in the field of IT network cabling (copper and fiber optics), the company supplied the equipment required to implement a class EA structured copper network.

The results of the various tests were outstanding thanks to the performance of the data link (36 km of 6A F/FTP copper cabling and 1,210 category 6A connectors) and the expertise contributed by the partner team (which had been trained in the latest methods and standards). 605 data links were set up at the new site.

What is more, Immotic’s outstanding operational responsiveness simplified the provision of a turnkey installation within a short timeframe, coupled with a manufacturer’s 25-year warranty on the components and applications.

Conclusion

All the requirements have been satisfied and the solution meets expectations. The cabling system was completed during May 2024.

The distributor (Coel of Sesto San Giovanni in the province of Milan) also played an important role in the success of this project by guaranteeing very fast delivery times and services.

Immotic’s engineers identified many advantages during the implementation of the solution: simplicity, speed of installation and respect for the delivery schedule. Even though some problems had to be overcome when deploying certain of the copper cables and despite the fact that these cables sometimes had to be subjected to small bending radii, the tests were passed without difficulty. This reassured the partner company about the construction quality of Rosenberger OSI products.
