High-density cabling successfully implemented at two locations
Rosenberger Optical Solutions & Infrastructure (Rosenberger OSI), a European manufacturer of innovative fiber-optic cabling infrastructures, has implemented the passive IT infrastructure for a leading global technology company in the optical and optoelectronic industry at two data center locations. The central element of the project was the deployment of the PreCONNECTยฎ SMAP-G2 UHD 19" system, which enables high packing density as well as the combined integration of copper and fiber-optic technologies within a single height unit.
The project was initiated in early 2025 via EDC Datacenter GmbH, the customer's data center planner. In the subsequent tendering phase, Rosenberger OSI prevailed over several competitors with its PreCONNECTยฎ SMAP-G2 UHD. Decisive factors included the systemโs technical performance characteristics, the compact design and the possibility of mapping different transmission media within a single system. Another key factor was the ten-year system warranty, enabled by installation carried out by a certified Rosenberger OSI technician team.
Implementation at two data center locations
The project was implementation at two locations with differing requirements. Initially, an existing infrastructure was consolidated within container data centers to ensure uninterrupted operations during the transition phase. In parallel time, a stand-alone data center was established to assume the entire IT load in the future. The required components were delivered in June 2025 and installation work was completed in September 2025. In total, 69 PreCONNECTยฎ SMAP-G2 UHD enclosures were installed at the first location and a further 23 at the second location.
Technical features of PreCONNECTยฎ SMAP-G2 UHD
The second-generation PreCONNECTยฎ SMAP-G2 UHD 19" enclosure features a modular design and offers a very high port density within a small space. It thus meets the requirements of modern, scalable data center environments and enables space-efficient, structured cabling.
Ready for future data centers
โData center architectures are increasingly evolving towards higher power densities and more dynamic operating models. To support these developments in the long term, cabling systems are required that not only meet current requirements but also remain structurally open for future expansion. This is precisely where PreCONNECTยฎ SMAP-G2 UHD comes into play,โ says Thomas Schmidt, Managing Director of Rosenberger OSI.
