#4 Industrial Connector Check - made easy | Size 5

OSI Insights in our video-blog

To make the unique advantages of fibre optic technology accessible even in demanding environments, extensive expertise is required. Whether in aviation and aerospace and wind and solar power – the need for extremely high data throughput, complete resistance to electromagnetic interference, and exceptional robustness is universal.

In our Industrial Connector Check – made easy series, Max Komarow, Product Manager for the industrial sector at Rosenberger OSI, introduces you to the various connectors designed for harsh environments.

In Focus: Size 5 expanded beam connector contacts

The Size 5 is a solution that combines precision and innovation in a single component. This expanded beam connector uses the key expanded beam technologies, making it particularly tough and reliable. Even in demanding environments.

Expanded Beam Technology

The beam expansion in the Size 5 causes the light to be distributed over a larger area before it is bundled back down to its original diameter. The protective glass additionally protects the connector against environmental factors, such as:

  • dust
  • dirt
  • humidity
  • damage

Even if particles of dirt are present on the surface of the protective glass, signal transmission remains stable. These quartz glass elements are not only robust but also easy and quick to clean. This makes them ideal for applications in which toughness, insensitivity to contamination and efficiency are important.

Fields of application:

The Size 5 was specially designed for multimode applications in challenging environments.

  • aviation and aerospace
  • wind and solar power
  • industrial applications

This expanded beam connector is able to withstand extreme conditions. From vibrations through to large changes in temperature and more besides.

User-friendly handling

The contact can be inserted and removed without any need for tools. Simply, quickly and reliably. This saves time and increases flexibility during installation and maintenance. A sprung insert even makes it possible to compensate for significant tolerances and movements in the carrier system. The connector can be converted into an adapter using a snap-on alignment sleeve and can be installed in ARINC 600 connector housings, for example.

Features

  • Compensates for significant tolerances and movements in carrier systems thanks to a sprung insert
  • Can be converted into an adapter using a snap-on alignment sleeve
  • Suitable for installation in ARINC 600 or MIL-DTL-38999 connector housings
  • Up to 1,000 mating cycles
  • Operating temperatures from -40Β°C to +90Β°C

With the Size 5 expanded beam connector, we offer a solution which is not only at the cutting edge of technology, but also meets the most demanding industrial requirements. Reliable, tough and easy to maintain. This connector will take your application to the next level.
