Future-oriented cabling is paving the way for Smart Working

More dynamic use of space, cross-team communication and working in project-related groups - this is what more and more companies are relying on. This explains the success of coworking spaces. Entire departments are already being relocated to such environments. More and more companies want to implement the resulting flexibility holistically on their own premises. Smart Working is one of the working world`s central topics. The IT-affine "Generation Z" lives and works digitally. Modern, digitized workplaces and new applications promise more efficiency, agility and productivity, but also a better quality of life. The shared infrastructure in the frontend makes modern workstations increasingly attractive and more economical.

Understanding digital needs

But millenials don't just want hip working environments. Rather, they demand high availability and quality from the underlying infrastructure. Companies that ignore this will be no longer up to date. If they want to score in the competition for qualified specialists and talents, they need to understand the individual digital needs of their employees. A more committed, active and productive workforce wants to be perceived by IT as an internal customer, getting an appropriate service. Not only modern tools and technologies are in demand, but also the interaction between the technical department and employees.  The generation of "digital natives" is questioning established organizational structures and hierarchies. Rigid models will have to give way to individuality, mobility and networking. Virtualisation, cloud computing and modern means of communication are important driving forces behind this. They enable using existing resources more efficiently and setting up new solutions more quickly. Virtual infrastructures and software from the cloud also support companies in implementing more flexible workplace concepts.

Small office cells belong to the past

In many cases this also means the departure from small office units to open office concepts. In the digital office landscape, everyone works where there is space or where they want to work. Flexible work zones are therefore a prerequisite for practical Smart Working. The off-the-shelf working world 4.0 is, however, not available. Switching to digitized work and new room structures should be carefully planned. If the entire office environment becomes the workplace of every employee, the technical prerequisites for this must also be created. Everyone should be able to log on to the company network anywhere and at any time and work with his or her equipment wherever it is required or necessary.

Modern IT and digital tools increase traffic on the network. Similarly, the demands on data throughput are increasing. Outdated cable structures can often not keep up with the speed in the 4.0 working world. Future-oriented cabling should therefore go hand in hand with the redesign of workplace environments. This is the only way to meet the demands of digital processes in the medium to long term. This is where building cabling comes into the play.

Everything from a single source

Flexibility is an essential feature of the working world 4.0. Of course, the cabling must also play a role. Economy and plug & play installation are important criteria. Rosenberger OSI covers this need with a complete package from a single source. Our specialists take over the planning, production, installation and commissioning of the active and passive technology. Companies can concentrate fully on their core processes on their way to the digital workplace.

The new workplace concepts can be implemented easily and cost-effectively, for example with PreCONNECT® smartNET. This plug & play solution does not require full expansion. Rather, it is enough to align an installation with actual requirements. In contrast to structured cabling, the system can be flexibly modified and expanded. The cables of this product family are pre-assembled by Rosenberger OSI.

IT rooms for floor distributors and the technical building services required for them become obsolete. Overall, less structural measures are necessary. Therefore, our solution is also suitable for old buildings with partially listed environments.

Innovative cable concept is more economical

Optimization with PreCONNECT® smartNET is achieved because so-called Active Consolidation Points (ACPs) replace the classic floor distributor. In principle, an ACP can disappear into the raised floor or be installed on the wall or ceiling. It can be dismantled and moved easily, which makes it highly flexible. Thanks to the innovative redundant Ethernet cabling concept with ACP, companies benefit from an increase in usable space, as technical rooms are no longer required. Retrofitting can be carried out at any time without interruption or disruption to business operations. This also minimizes the necessary administrative planning.

The organizational expenditure for the migration into the working world 4.0 is high and requires also investments. Therefore, one should not lose sight of the follow-up construction costs when calculating. With PreCONNECT® smartNET, companies entering the digital change process are on the safe side. Investment and follow-up costs remain manageable. In addition, building owners benefit from reduced fire loads, which is an important issue for Health and Safety Regulations. The ACP, for example, is installed near the intended workstations. This shortens the distances of tertiary copper cabling, one of the largest sources of cable fires. The fire load is reduced by about two thirds, while companies save the cost of tertiary copper cabling.

With the One-Shop-Stopping concept at Rosenberger OSI we pave the way for our customers into the working world 4.0. The future belongs to the smart workplace. Where do you stand?
