Vlog #20 Infrastructure services for AI transformation

OSI Insights in our video-blog

Artificial intelligence is one of the major trends we are facing right now in IT technology. AI is the driver of tremendous growth we are seeing in data centers all across Europe. First of all, for artificial intelligence applications, you need a performant IT infrastructure. But on the other hand, you also need experts to manage AI transformations. What challenges do service experts face with AI transformations?

In conversation: Gerald Berg, Process Manager Sales & Marketing and Samuel Premkumar, Manager Strategic Groth & Operations Europe Service at Rosenberger OSI.

Here, we place the focus on: High volume cabling, AI projects, Challenges

You are deeply involved in some of these AI projects in Europe. Can you give us an example, describing such a project?

Samuel Premkumar: Sure. So one of our projects, which has kept us busy the last year, was a project that was about high volume cabling for AI clusters.

High volume. What do you mean by high volume? Do you have a figure for us for better understanding?

Samuel Premkumar: Yes. So high volume we are talking about per cluster between two and a half to 7500 cables point to point connecting them.

Okay. That's really a lot. And which is the timeframe in which you have to do that?

Samuel Premkumar: In this specific case, we had ten days to complete the work.

Okay. Sounds challenging. Were there other challenges to be managed during such a project?

Samuel Premkumar: Yes. With such a high amount of cabling, you have quite large teams, that you have to manage, and you have two, of course, interface with your client and their customer. Managing expectations, managing the timeline and having a flawless execution within ten days.

Okay. Flawless execution also means a good preparation and planning of such a project. Is that part of your activities as well?

Samuel Premkumar: Yes. It has to be your daily bread and butter as a project manager to have these things in place.

I understood that there are a lot of challenges to be managed. How do we do that in particular?

Samuel Premkumar: Well, we have very experienced project managers, who have a background in data center operations in Germany, who plan and execute on site. And, we have, in my particular case, someone who's a executive as a project manager on site, managing the whole team, managing the work packages, advanced scheduling in terms of which what tasks come first, what tasks come last, and optimizing these workflows and work packages.

Okay, I see so it's really a holistic approach of the project from the very beginning during the installation till the final installation of the project.
