Next-generation IT network design: flexible, more economical, future-proof

Are you looking for modern LAN cabling that makes efficient use of active and passive components? A network that will meet your future needs: economical, flexible, adaptable? We can provide you with a complete system that fulfils all these requirements. Thanks to the FTTACP concept, you are optimally equipped to meet the challenges of the future in the field of office and building cabling. Because this innovative alternative to conventional structured cabling offers completely new possibilities. Opt for a comprehensive, future-proof concept that focuses on economic efficiency and flexibility, both for new network installations and for integration in existing systems.

The advantages of building cabling with FTTACP - Fiber to the active consolidation point

Great savings potentials in the tertiary infrastructure (cable quantities, cable ducts) as well as in power consumption thanks to efficient ACP’s, coupled with the protection of your investment due to the fact that all your active and practically all your passive components can be transported with you and reused if you relocate.

System of harmonized standard components, simplified project planning, trouble-free extensions and adaptations without interrupting business activities thanks to a redundant FTTACP concept (Fiber to the active consolidation point) with ring configuration.

Network extensions and conversions can be implemented without difficulty - both in the case of new and pre-existing installations. The flexibility of the FTTACP concept also proves its worth when it comes to implementing extensions during ongoing business operations. In such cases, the installation work in the new sector can be performed independently of the rest of the system.

An innovative cabling architecture for a modern building

Central to this complete system is the Active Consolidation Point (ACP), which is connected with optical fibers in the backbone and is distributed to copper trunks or copper patchcords in the near tertiary sector (max. 20 m). PerCONNECT® EcoFlex'IT has a ring configuration to give it a redundant design and can be referred to as an FTTACP (fiber to the active consolidation point) solution.

Because the ACP’s are installed in raised floors, in the ceiling area or at the walls, the cabling system can be integrated in any working environment without any additional space requirements, can be dismantled again at any time, and is versatile and easy to relocate.

Flexible building cabling especially suitable for:

  • New buildings in general and perfect for new buildings with as yet unknown usage and undefined users
  • Existing buildings and historic listed buildings because, in these cases, there are no construction measures for floor distributor spaces and the cable ducting and number of fire walls are greatly reduced.
  • Large networks, small networks as well as standalone solutions for office, sales or industrial spaces
  • Extensions to or restructuring or revitalization of existing networks

FTTACP - The innovative alternative to conventional structured cabling

Advantages of FTTACP:

Reduction of the tertiary copper cabling
and the fire load

Time-intensive measurements

Gain in surface area

*relative to the total area

Operating and maintenance costs
for technical rooms

Potential savings:

Total (project) costs
through the installation of the currently
required ACTUAL construction level

Reduction of the
cable-laying infrastructure

of the installation time on-site

Saving of fire bulkhead
for cable laying

Any other questions?

Here you will find answers to various questions on the topic of alternative building cabling.

If you are currently using structured cabling, is it possible to switch over to FTTACP?

Even after using a passive network for a long period, almost every business is at some stage confronted with the fact that the network cabling needs to be revitalized because the requirements have changed over time. In such cases, a switch-over to FTTACP is possible at any time. This is because the PerCONNECT® EcoFlex'IT building cabling solution is practically independent of the existing cable infrastructure and is installed independently of the existing fire protection. It can therefore be installed without difficulty in parallel with the existing network infrastructure.

Can the FTTACP concept also be integrated as a partial extension in existing cabling?

The FTTACP network can be integrated at any time in an existing structured cabling solution. Consequently, the existing solution does not necessarily have to be removed and it is possible for the two structures to coexist in an overall network without any problem. PerCONNECT® EcoFlex'IT makes use of active and passive standard components that are also available and used for structured networks.

Who can benefit from building cabling using the FTTACP concept?

FTTACP permits flexible network construction that is suitable for all building structures and uses – irrespective of whether this is in an old or new building, or an office, sales or industrial space. The innovative cabling architecture is also perfect for new buildings with as yet unknown usage and undefined users. What is more, it requires no building-level conversion measures for network extensions or switch-overs and is therefore also ideal for existing buildings that offer little scope for modifications. The FTTACP concept is independent of network size and can therefore be used for very small or campus networks as well as for standalone solutions or in combination with conventional structured cabling.

What makes FTTACP networks so flexible with regard to future requirements?

Speeds in the backbones of LAN networks will also increase in the future. Using an FTTACP network, it is now already possible to take preventive measures to keep pace with this development by planning for the use of single-mode fibers, or at least by using multimode fibers in OM4 quality. In addition, it is necessary to ensure that the ACP is equipped with at least 8 fibers (4 channels) for future parallelized applications. Following these basic rules ensures that you are optimally equipped for the future in the LAN network backbone.

How is performance at the end-user workplaces ensured?

Multiple ACP switches are usually integrated in the FTTACP structures. Every ring has an optical fiber connection and a redundant optical fiber connection to the building’s main distributor or to a redundant main distributor. In essence, a ring represents a shared medium for all the connected office workstations as well as for all other IP applications. At 100Mbit/s, the performance is generally more than adequate for normal office workstations. If genuine power workstations with higher data throughput are needed, then this sector can be separated from the ring without difficulty and be added to the overall system as a separate, high-performance ring.
