Augsburg, May 10, 2023 – Rosenberger Optical Solutions & Infrastructure (Rosenberger OSI), an expert in fiber optic connections, cabling solutions and infrastructure services, presents the Patch Location Rack COMFORT, a new addition to its data center portfolio. With the Patch Location Rack COMFORT, Rosenberger OSI has developed a very compact tailor-made cabling rack, which can be installed on walls in the data center by means of a rear panel. Thus, it is space-saving not only in terms of limited depth but also in terms of accessibility, easy to operate and accessible from the front only. This new development was designed with the aim of installing the most space-saving objects in the data center, to remove the cabling as far as possible from the standard server cabinets, and at the same time to ensure convenient and easy handling.
Space is the most valuable resource in the data center, and operators are at the same time faced with the challenge that the requirements for cabling are increasing continually. Cabling racks take up an enormous amount of space and current security requirements demand limited and controlled access to the infrastructure. As a result, there is a rising need to make use of previously unused space and to install cable distribution racks in the highest possible density while maintaining efficient operability.
Compact racks for the data center of the future
As a solution to this problem, Rosenberger OSI recommends adapted, comfortable patch location racks in compact ODF-style format for the data center of the future instead of bulky 19" cabling racks. These should be equipped with densely packed and flexible distribution or hybrid splice enclosures and offer optional roof cabling.
Rosenberger OSI presents new development
All these factors were taken into account in the development of the new Patch Location Rack COMFORT. In addition to a compact design, it features a "tidy" and space-saving folding door. It is also equipped with an UHD distribution housing with anti-stress cable guide for up to 576 fibers or a hybrid UHD splice housing with anti-stress cable guide for up to 288 fibers. In maximum configuration in a single rack, it allows up to 4608 MDC or SN connectors and up to 2304 LCC duplex connections. Innovative anti-stress cable routing eliminates unnecessary threading or pulling.
Higher port density and security
Due to the compact design of the Patch Location Rack COMFORT, Rosenberger OSI enables a significantly increased port density per data center area compared to classic 19" cabling cabinets. Minimally invasive working due to anti-stress cable routing and lockable doors also ensures a high level of security. Due to the accessibility from the front, the rack is also very easy to operate, and the use of the footprints outside the expensive cold aisles ensures maximum space utilization.
Flexible application areas
The Patch Location Rack COMFORT is suitable for high-density patch locations for fiber optic cables in data centers and as a larger transfer point for network transitions (meet-me room), e.g. in colocation data centers. Furthermore, it is ideally suited for a main distribution cabinet, intermediate distribution cabinet or zone distribution cabinet according to EN50173-3 with very high packing density in data centers and IT rooms.
